2006 Season - Week 18

BUMS Wildcard Weekend

Why does the first week-end in January provide so many upsets? No I’m not talking about the FA Cup. Only 3 of the higher seeds went through to the next round with the 16 seed beating 1, 15 defeating 2 and 13 upsetting 4. Surely Phil (14) would have beaten Johnny (3) if only he’d entered a team. Johnny went through despite only scoring 6 points. The line-up for the Divisional Round includes Johnny (3) taking on Davis S (16), Cheryl (4) playing Daz (15), Mark (7) faces AP (13) and Marcus (9) entertains Rookie George (11). Teams to me by 10am Saturday please. First come first served etc. NFL Wildcard Weekend The home teams went 4 for 4 this weekend but won in a variety of ways. On Saturday night the porous Indianapolis run defense shut-down Larry Johnson, holding the Kansas City Running Back to just 32 yards. Seattle defeated Dallas after The Cowboys blew a 19 yard field goal to win when Tony Romo dropped the snap. The New York Jets played New England close until the 4th quarter when with the game balanced at 16-23 the Patriots scored the final 2 TDs to comfortably win 37-16. In the final game The Giants tied things up in the 4th quarter only for their defense to give up a 10 play, 5 minute drive allowing Philadelphia to win the game on David Akers field goal as time expired. Hall of Fame - Old School Wing The votes are in and the players who never served on BUMS rosters long enough to be eligible for the BUMS Hall of Fame have now been selected for the Old School wing. We were due to induct 14 but due to a 4 way tie for 14th I am pleased to announce that 17 players have made it in led by Barry Sanders who polled 71 points. See attached. Franchise Players 2007-2008 You will select your Franchise player after the NFL Draft and majority of free agency as I shall be asking for your Franchise players for the next two years early in June. You’ll be giving up the player that you franchised two years ago though some have been cut due to injury or as they failed to live up to their owners hopes. Big names coming onto the market include QB Drew Brees, RBs Shaun Alexander, Corey Dillon & Willis McGahee, Receivers Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne & Roy Williams and kicker Adam Vinatieri. BUMS on Seats It’s time for the Divisional games this weekend. On Saturday night we will gather at BUMS HQ from 9:30pm to see Indianapolis (13-4) @ Baltimore (13-3). We will be at BUMS HQ on Sunday from 3:30pm to watch the recording of Philadelphia (11-6) @ New Orleans (10-6) which is played overnight, followed at 6pm on Sky with Seattle (10-7) @ Chicago (13-3), followed by New England (13-4) @ San Diego (14-2). Cheryl will be doing food so let us know if you are coming. As always all are welcome.
